Welcome to the Language Centre Teaching and Learning Research Team at Hong Kong Baptist University. As Chair of this dynamic team, I am delighted to collaborate with each of you in advancing research that deepen our understanding of language acquisition and improve our educational methods.

The Language Centre is committed to equipping students with essential skills in academic, professional, intercultural, and digital communication, preparing them for both intellectual growth and global participation. Our wide-ranging programs are thoughtfully aligned with the University’s mission to ensure students excel in their studies and future careers. Our Terms of Reference (ToR) provide a clear framework of our work:

Exploring and Securing Support: We aim to identify and secure funding and incentives to boost scholarship activities within the Language Centre (LC), ensuring well-supported and impactful research.

Vetting Funding Applications: Our team carefully reviews and endorses funding applications from LC colleagues, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals and increasing chances of securing resources.

Engaging with Experts: We collaborate with experts and consultants to offer seminars, workshops, and consultations, aiding professional development and improving research project quality.

Fostering Research Projects: We encourage research projects related to teaching and learning in the belief that inquiry and investigation are essential to educational excellence.

Promoting Collaboration: We aim to coordinate and encourage teamwork among colleagues on both current and new research initiatives, creating a culture of shared knowledge and innovation.

Data Governance and Analytics: We are committed to enhancing data governance and analytics capabilities, and promoting data-driven decision-making  to advance educational strategies and improve outcomes.

Moving forward, our Research Team is committed to providing unwavering support for our colleagues. Our goal extends beyond the LC,  reaching across  different departments  to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. This approach  will enrich the experiences of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Terms of Reference

  1. To explore and secure funding and other forms of incentives to support scholarship activities at LC;
  2. To vet and endorse funding applications of LC colleagues;
  3. To engage experts and consultants to deliver seminars, workshops and consultation sessions for colleagues working on research projects;
  4. To encourage colleagues to develop research projects related to teaching and learning;
  5. To coordinate and promote collaboration among colleagues on existing and new research initiatives;
  6. To enhance data governance and data analytics and promote data-driven decision-making at LC.
