Nov 2022 – 12 Feb 2023 Application period

Category 1 – Movie Monologue

  1. Contestants can choose any English movie monologue they wish or select any one of the monologues from this list:
  2. There is no word limit of the script but the monologue should last for about 3 minutes (+/- 1 minute).
  3. Contestants are expected to be creative in the delivery and show their own interpretation of the chosen movie monologue.
  4. Contestants should submit their application and upload the script (MS Word file) to the online application form

Category 2 – Impromptu Speech

  1. Contestants will select a topic for their speech by drawing a question from a pool of questions prepared by the Coordinator of the Speaking Contest.
  2. Questions will be related to current events.
  3. No two contestants will speak on the same topic in the same year.
  4. Each contestant will be given five minutes to prepare before they deliver a speech.
  5. Each speech will be timed and is expected to be between 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Contestant order will be determined by a random drawing at the time of the Contest.


  1. Contestants can apply for either Category 1 or 2 in this English Speaking Contest.
  2. Requests of changing Category after application will not be entertained.
