Minor Programme in Cantonese

The aims of the Minor Programme is to:
  • enhance non-Chinese speaking students’ competences in Cantonese communication
  • help non-Chinese speaking students prepare for their career development in Hong Kong
  • enrich non-Chinese speaking students’ linguistic knowledge of Cantonese and cultural understanding of Hong Kong community
 
Students will gain:
  • communicate effectively in Cantonese in various social and academic contexts (PILO 1)
  • Analyze significant cultural knowledge and connotations beneficial to their living and career in Hong Kong (PILO 2)
  • Apply useful linguistic skills to improve Cantonese proficiency throughout school, community and workplace (PILO 3)
 
Eligibility – All UGC-funded non-Chinese speaking undergraduate students

Minor Programmes in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish

The aims of the Minor Programmes are to:
  • better prepare students for their careers
  • make them more competitive in the job market
  • enrich their linguistic, intellectual and cultural development
 
Students will gain:
  • cultural knowledge of a country or region
  • the ability to communicate effectively in a range of social and academic contexts in the target language

Eligibility – All UGC-funded undergraduate students
 
Content
Each minor programme will consist of a total of 15 units. The lists of courses under each programme are as follows:
French Language Minor *

Remarks:
* Students in the French Stream of the BSocSc (Hons) in European Studies programme are not allowed to claim the Minor in the French Language while those of the German Stream are not allowed to claim the Minor in the German Language.
# In accordance with prevailing Minor policy, students are required to complete at least one 3-unit course at the upper level (Level 3 or 4) to claim the Minor.
