HKBU Sponsorship Scheme for the
IELTS TEST and TOEFL iBT 2025-2026

To encourage students to take the IELTS TEST and TOEFL iBT, HKBU will provide full reimbursement of the IELTS test fee/TOFEL test fee for students who take the IELTS Test (Academic Module) or TOFEL iBT.

Eligibility

With effect from AY2025-26, all HKBU students enrolled in a UGC-funded undergraduate programme will receive a financial subsidy to take either the TOEFL iBT or IELTS (Academic Module). Each student may be reimbursed only once during their entire study period at HKBU. Please see details below and in the application form. To maximize the number of students who may benefit from this scheme, each student is permitted to submit only one application during their study at HKBU.

Application Procedures

  • Fill in the Application Form and Submit the IELTS Test Report (Academic Module) or the TOEFL iBT score and Receipt of the IELTS Test Fee/TOEFL test fee
 
  • Update the local bank account details under “Study Record & Personal Particulars” in BUniPort before the submission of the Application Form.
 
  • Application Deadline:
  • If you have taken the IELTS Test between 1 August and 31 August 2025, please submit your application form by 30 November 2025. Applications in this batch will follow the old scheme and will only be accepted from students who have obtained an overall band score of 7 or above in the IELTS Test (Academic Module).
  • If you have taken the IELTS or TOEFL test between 1 September 2025 and 31 January 2026, please submit your application form by 31 March 2026.
  • If you have taken the IELTS or TOEFL test between 1 February and 15 June 2026, please submit your application form by 30 June 2026.

Reimbursement

Eligible students will receive the reimbursed amount through autopay in the local bank within three months after the application deadline. Students will receive email notifications from the Finance Office upon completion of the autopay transaction.

*For students who take IELTS tests outside Hong Kong, the reimbursed amount of the test fee will be made in Hong Kong dollars (the exchange rate is calculated based on the HKBU Finance Office designated monthly exchange rate), and the maximum amount of reimbursement should not exceed the amount of the test fee in Hong Kong.
 
Students can only be reimbursed ONCE throughout their entire study period at HKBU.
