| The mission of the Hong Kong Baptist University Language Centre
is to help HKBU students write effectively in English and Chinese,
and speak effectively in English, Putonghua, and Cantonese. In pursuing
these goals, the Language Centre designs and delivers a variety of
language programmes including:
The Language Centre aims to provide a first-rate coherent curriculum
to foster skills of self-expression and self-understanding in all
the languages it teaches, as well as provide the finest facilities
for additional self-learning. In addition, the Language Centre seeks
to conduct research and promote staff development, as well as to
provide the finest teaching support services in order to carry the
centre's dual goals of providing a first-rate curriculum along with
high quality learning resources to HKBU students.
One prime objective at the Language Centre is to help students
become aware of their own role in the language learning process.
We provide ways for students to ascertain their current language
abilities through on-line diagnostic tests in English, as well as
assessment exams in Putonghua. Next, we provide personalized services
to help students design programmes for self-improvement. As a small
university, we have a low student-teacher ratio. HKBU teachers enjoy
working with the students and helping them grow as they participate
in the classes, workshops and contests offered by the Language Centre.
