Lecturer II / Assistant Lecturer (Chinese Section) (Ref. No.: PR236/11-12) |

Duties & Qualifications: |
|
The appointee is expected to (i) teach courses including "University Chinese" as well as courses related to creative writing and playwriting; (ii) provide Speaking Enhancement Services (Cantonese) and Chinese Enhancement Services as assigned; (iii) assist in the design, preparation and revision of syllabuses and teaching materials for Chinese courses, including Self-Access Language Learning (SALL) materials; (iv) pro-actively provide service to the Language Centre; and (v) perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Centre.
Applicants should have a Master's Degree in Chinese or a related field, be actively involved in creative writing, and have published works of fiction including poetry, novels, and plays as well as speak fluent Cantonese. Preference will be given to those who have attained second class division 1 or above in the Putonghua Proficiency Test, and who can communicate well in English. Having a postgraduate education diploma/certificate and/or experience in teaching Chinese at tertiary level in Hong Kong will also be advantageous. |

Terms of Appointment: |
|
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of one year commencing September 2012. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review and availability of funding.
Reference Salary Range:
Lecturer II: HK$25,000 to HK$33,000
Assistant Lecturer: HK$20,000 to HK$25,000
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience |

Language Ambassador (Chinese and Putonghua Sections) |

Duties & Qualifications: |
|
The appointee is expected to have the competence of speaking Cantonese and Putonghua effectively. S/he will advise students to improve language competence, assess students’ current language ability in a specific area (writing, listening, reading, speaking, vocabulary, grammar), help students with specific language questions, conduct writing and speaking enhancement workshops, provide tutorials for students and serve as a language advisor in the Language Laboratories and Learning Commons.
Qualifications:
- Master of Arts degree in Chinese, Linguistics, Language Teaching or related field

Must pass a written test before the interview

Must mark and give written or verbal feedback on students’ writing samples

First class grade B or above in the National PTH Proficiency Test (preferable) |
